Ciara Havishya
Ciara (pronounced Kira) is a multi-disciplinary artist living in Calgary Alberta. Their creative practice encompasses tattooing, perfumery, illustration and painting. They studied for 3 years at Emily Carr University before moving on to establish themselves in the field of Indian tattooing, which draws on their heritage. They have developed an expertise in large-scale freehand tattooing with a focus on cultural and historical inspiration, They draw on existing traditions like mehndi, Tibetan Buddhist art, Japanese woodblocks, and contemporary tribal tattoo culture to create unique pieces drawn to fit every client. Ciara has spent years studying global art history, and applies an ethical framework to their tattoo practice designed to ensure that they don’t overstep cultural boundaries by doing tattoos they’re not meant to do, or by giving a tattoo to someone who isn’t meant to have it.
